By studying international political theory, security, the history of political diplomacy, area studies and international law, students acquire the ability to comprehensively analyze the mechanisms of international society. In the Department of International Politics, about half of the faculty members are specialists of international politics and are leaders in Japan on international politics in research. Students choose either the "Politics and Foreign Diplomacy/Security Course" or the "Global Governance Course." The former is a study of international relations from the viewpoint of the traditional field of international politics, and students will take courses on international politics, international security theory, international law and the history of diplomacy. The latter is a study of global international issues, such as peacekeeping operations and global environmental issues, and students will study theories of international systems, international administration, international peace cooperation, and international NGOs by superseding the boundaries of traditional international politics. Graduates are able to join international organizations or international firms, or become civil servants or journalists.
